1. Credentials - All credentials are now under Institution Config / General / Credentials. Credentials have the option of being designed. You can set some text, a background PDF, signatures, dates and it will make a credential for you. Credentials have an optional expiry date which could be used to report on expired credentials with a custom report.
2. Programs - When you select a credential for a program now you select it from the Credentials list, there is no longer a Program Credentials tab under Institution Config. There is one additional thing you have to fill out and that's 'Display Credential As'. This is so that they can customize what the credential says and not just automatically use the program name. For example if they called the program Personal Support Worker - PM or something they can put 'Personal Support Worker' on certificate.
3. Student Credentials - Under Student Academics there is now a section called Credentials. This is used in 2 ways. When a credential is awarded under Programs the credential is automatically added here. If there is a design it's generated and stored along with the credential. If there is an expiry date, it's automatically calculated.
Optionally they can also add a credential manually. They enter all the same information and they can optionally upload a PDF of the credential.
4. Student Portal Credentials - the credentials list is also now available under Student Portal / Profile / Credentials. However students can't download credentials, they can see the preview if one is available.
5. Courses - Add credentials to courses, identical to programs and award them to students upon successfull completion of course.
Here are the details
A. Credential External Providers - there is a new tab under Credentials called External Providers. You will be able to configure multiple but for now you can only enable / configure Accredible.
When enabled there are some new options.
B. Credentials
Under credentials you can now select Accredible as an external provider. This will give you the option to select a Certificate and a Badge from the ones you've designed in your Accredible account. These are the certificate and badge that will be awarded for those receiving this credential
C. Students / Add Credential
Similarly when you add a credential from the student academics page you will now see this option as well .
D. View Student Credential
Once a credential is issued and you view it from the student admin or student portal - if Accredible was issued it will have a link and preview of the certificate / badge.
It just needs to be put into production now and tested, I'm sure there will be plenty to adjust / update once it gets going but the basics are there. I'm not quite sure how some of my choices with displaying certs when you choose etc will scale up but I guess we'll get there.
Some notes
- Our authentication page makes no reference to external credential providers so you won't see links to them there etc..
- When you delete a credential it will delete the credential from accredible. However when you restore it won't restore the credential because there is no such function on accredible's end. If you delete and want to restore accredible cert you need to re-issue it.
- I am passing Accredible the Grade field but it just doesn't take it. It's stored with the amp credential but not being passed. Maybe we can pass it through a custom field or something.
- Accredible has something called 'Departments' - i guess a way to organize credentials. I'm not making use of those at all, just grabbing all the credentials.
- The way accredible works is that Designs and Credentials are assigned to Groups which contain the Certificate and Badge design. This makes sense and for each course and program we create a new group. However when you add a manual certificate this ends up being a group on its own. There isn't much I can do here, it's just how it's organized in Accredible.
